What it is
When the day's driving is done, the cities are worth staying up for. Kampala has one of East Africa's liveliest evening scenes — live bands and Afrobeat, street food, and neighbourhoods that only really start after dark. Kigali is the calmer counterpoint: orderly, notably safe, with rooftop bars, live music and a relaxed café-into-evening rhythm.
We treat this as an optional add-on for travellers who want a night out rather than an early start, with local guidance on where to go and how to get back. It is a side of Uganda and Rwanda the parks never show, and an easy, sociable bookend to a safari.
