The details
Privacy policy
Draft for review. This policy describes how this website and app are actually built, and is a starting point prepared for Confidence Africa to confirm before it is relied on.
1. Who we are
Confidence Africa Tours and Travel Limited is a tour operator registered in Uganda and based in Kampala, established in 2015. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at info@confidenceafricatours.com or on +256 773 063 402.
2. What we collect
When you make an enquiry we collect the details you give us: your name, your email address, your phone number if you provide one, the safari you are interested in, and anything you write in your message. Some pages carry additional questions — party size, travel dates, and similar — and we keep those answers alongside your enquiry. If you subscribe through a pop-up on the site we collect your email address. If you use the client portal we collect the email address you sign in with. We do not ask for payment card details through this website.
3. Why we use it
We use your details to answer your enquiry, to prepare and discuss an itinerary, and to arrange your safari if you go ahead — including booking permits, lodges and transport on your behalf. Where you have asked to hear from us, we may send occasional travel news; every such message carries a way to stop them. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
4. Our legal basis
We handle your details either because you asked us to take steps towards a booking, because we have a legitimate interest in responding to an enquiry you sent us, because we need to meet a legal or accounting obligation, or because you gave consent — which you can withdraw at any time.
5. Who we share it with
To run your safari we pass the details necessary to the suppliers involved: lodges and camps, transport providers, and the wildlife authorities of Uganda and Rwanda, who require the traveller details set out on a permit. We also use trusted service providers to run this website and store our records — currently Vercel for hosting, Supabase for our database and portal sign-in, and Mixpanel for the anonymous usage statistics described below. They process information on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
6. Cookies and tracking
This website carries no analytics, advertising or social media tracking of any kind. The only cookies it sets are the ones needed to keep you signed in to the client portal, and they are set only if you sign in. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.
7. The mobile app
Our companion app shows the same safari information as this website. If you allow it, the app can show your position on its maps to help you orient yourself — that location stays on your device and is never sent to us or stored. If you turn on notifications, we hold the anonymous token needed to deliver them, and you can switch them off at any time in your device settings. The app also records anonymous usage events — which screens are opened, which safaris are looked at, whether a notification was tapped — so we can tell what travellers find useful. Those events are tied to a random identifier created when the app is installed, not to your name and not to your device's advertising identifier, and our analytics provider receives the IP address the app connects from, which gives an approximate city or country. The app carries no advertising, and we do not sell or share your information.
8. Where it is held, and for how long
Your information is held on servers operated by our service providers, which may be outside your country — including in the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. We keep enquiries for as long as we may reasonably still be of help, and booking records for as long as our tax and accounting obligations require. After that we delete them.
9. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop using it for marketing. Depending on where you live you may have further rights, including under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation. Write to info@confidenceafricatours.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Keeping it safe
This site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to our records is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and to act quickly if something goes wrong.
11. Children
This website and app are intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children. Where a booking includes children, we receive their details from the adult making the booking.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page. Where a change is significant we will say so clearly rather than quietly amending the text.
