What it is
Experiential lion tracking puts you in the research vehicle in Queen Elizabeth's Kasenyi plains, helping the monitoring team locate the park's lions. Using radio telemetry to pick up collared individuals, you leave the regular tracks and follow the signal across the savannah to the pride — a working morning of conservation rather than a sightseeing drive.
The fee contributes directly to the lion monitoring programme that keeps watch over these prides in a landscape where they are under real pressure. It is a way to see the cats up close while supporting the work that helps them survive.
What to expect
Radio telemetry
Tracking collared lions by signal, off the public tracks, with the monitoring team.
A conservation morning
Time spent on the actual work of watching over the prides, not just photographing them.
Kasenyi plains
Queen Elizabeth's open grassland, prime lion country and home to large herds of Uganda kob.

Good to know
- Does this support conservation?
- Yes. The experience is run with the team that monitors the park's lions, and the fee supports that monitoring work — part of why it exists at all.
- Is it better than a normal game drive for seeing lions?
- It is built around finding them, using collars and telemetry rather than luck, so the odds are strong. It is also a more involved, behind-the-scenes morning than a standard drive.
