Upon arrival, look out for your driver guide, he will be holding a placard with your name on it. You will be transferred to your hotel for freshening up and relaxation as your body adjusts to the beautiful weather of the Pearl of Africa. He will brief you on how your trip will go. Your driver/guide will be at Entebbe Airport to pick you up from your flight and takes you directly to your lodge in Kampala. Depending on the hour of your arrival, you may be able to explore the sites in and around Kampala.

Day 1: Arrival to Kigali, Rwanda

This day you arrive at Kigali International Airport. Upon arrival you are met with a driver guide and transferred to the Serena Kigali Hotel.  This afternoon if you have time you can visit the Genocide Memorial and learn about the tragedy that happened in 1994 and the amazing stories of forgiveness and recovery since that time. Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Morning drive to Akagera National Park in the east of Rwanda, a dramatic landscape of rolling hills, savannah and woodland interspersed with a series of lakes. You may see giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, Zebra, crocodile and other wildlife.  Dinner and Overnight at Serena Kigali Hotel B-L-D


Day 3: Northern game drives and transfers to Kigali

Breakfast, early morning game drive starts with a spectacular sunrise. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscape through the northern part of the park, as we head out to Kigali.  Dinner and Overnight at Serena Kigali Hotel B-L-D


Day 4: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest

Breakfast and head to southern Rwanda to visit Nyungwe Forest. Journey to Nyungwe Forest is stunning beautiful, through terraced hillsides and along the way we will stop to visit the Nyanza Kings palace and the National Museum, before we enjoy lunch in Butare. Continue the drive this afternoon through the dramatic landscape of the Nyungwe Forest, arriving at our lodge located in the middle of the Nyungwe Forest. Day 5: Nyungwe Forest  -  Chimpanzee trek
Breakfast and then have an early start to go and trek the endangered Chimpanzees that live in this area. You will take a picnic lunch. Return is likely late this afternoon, as the tracking can be quite strenuous and can take all day. Dinner and Overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge B-L-D


Day 6: Nyungwe Forest – Colobus Tracking OR Waterfall Trails OR Canopy Walk

Today you have a variety of hikes and excursions to choose from, you can choose to go for an escorted walk in search of the large groups of Colobus monkeys and birds including the Ruwenzori turaco.  Perhaps also take a guided walk to the waterfall, and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the forest. Alternatively you can choose to go for a a canopy walk or relax at the lodge, take advantage of the on-site spa services, or catch up on your email with the Wi-Fi service available in all rooms!  Dinner and Overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge B-L-D


Day 7: Nyungwe Forest Lodge to Virunga Volcanoes
Early breakfast and get on our journey to northern Rwanda the Virunga Volcanoes, home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas. The drive will take approximately 6hours.


Day 8: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trek

First Gorilla trek!  You will arise early this morning and drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park where you will meet your trackers/guides and head up the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes.  You will visit one of the ten habituated groups. Tracking the gorillas through the lush forested slopes of the Virungas is an absolutely magical experience. Some gorilla families however are more elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy, so you should be able to hike for three hours on steep mountain trails.


Day 8: Volcanoes National Park – 2nd Gorilla trek

Optional gorilla trek, for those who cannot have enough of the magnificent creatures in just one day, we offer a second chance to fulfill your needs with a second day of trekking.

Alternatively you can track the Golden Monkeys or visit to Dian Fossey’s grave or the Gorilla cemetery or Forest walk in Parc National des Volcano.


Day 9: Volcanoes to Kigali and flights home

Breakfast and pack, then transfer to Kigali for your flight headed home.  If you did not have time to visit on arrival day, you should get time to visit Kigali Genocide Memorial Site before your departure flight.
